Gold Coast cocktail entrepreneurs shake up record-breaking sale

Gold Coast hospitality entrepreneurs Jeremy and Chloe Davidson are toasting the record-breaking sale of their luxury waterfront home in Elanora for $2.9 million.

The couple founded popular Palm Beach eatery, the Collective, while Mr Davidson also co-founded the Mr Consistent cocktail brand, which achieved huge success through the pandemic as locked-down revellers drove demand for quality pre-mixed drinks.

Covid kept the Davidsons busy on the home front too, with the build of their five-bedroom, three-bedroom property on a 756sq m lot completed by ShoreDan Constructions in December 2020.

The striking house on Nineteenth Ave was marketed by Ed Cherry, of Harcourts Coastal, and sold under the hammer to a local buyer, eclipsing the former highest residential sale in the leafy southern suburb of $2.505 million, set in February 2022 for a 1127sq m lot.

Two bidders registered for the auction called by Harcourts sales director Rob Forde, but an opening bid of $2.3m put the underbidder out of the race from the start.

The Davidsons bought the property for $626,000 in October 2019, engaging Dane Power of Brisbane’s Koda Design to conceptualise plans for the contemporary coastal home.

They moved in two weeks after the birth of their first daughter, Layla.

With a spectacular all-white facade and superior finishes, the home’s high ceilings and expansive use of glass add to the light-and-bright aesthetic, while the creative floorplan wraps around a central entertaining area with a pool, spa and day bed — the perfect setting to sip a Cosmopolitan.

Ms Davidson, who worked as a sales trainer for Mr Consistent before pursuing a career in real estate, said a 3m long custom bench seat with sun umbrellas was inspired by boutique northern NSW hotel, Halcyon House.

“We just love the indoor/outdoor lifestyle that the Gold Coast has to offer, and we designed the house so that every room has water views, either of the lake or the pool,” she said.

“Cocktails are a big thing for us and we have a cocktail station in the kitchen that we put on display outside so we can enjoy a drink by the pool.”

Ms Davidson said she wasn’t surprised by the sale price achieved for their first build project, given the level of buyer interest through the campaign.

“It was definitely good timing for us, because we bought the block just prior to Covid so we had that upswing, and we started the build process before building and materials got so expensive.

“You can’t really build a house of that calibre anymore for that price,” she said.

The family plans to stay in the area.

Mr Cherry said buyers priced out of neighbouring Palm Beach were driving demand for on-trend property in the once-overlooked pocket.

“The quality of this house really set it apart,” Mr Cherry said.

“It could have been placed on the beach or by Tallebudgera Creek and fetched $8m-plus.

“But also, it shows it’s worth investing in the fringe suburbs as demand is pushing out from the beachfront strip.”

Sundowners over the lake anyone?

Mr Consistent was launched in 2020 and now produces up to 40,000 bottles per week, with total sales of more than 10 million cocktails.

The Davidsons launched The Collective in 2016 with Chloe’s property developer father, Wayne Hubbard.

The eatery introduced a new concept in dining to the Gold Coast, with customers able to order any menu items from five different restaurant kitchens and two bars under the one roof.

New owners took the reigns of the business in 2020, with the building at 1128 Gold Coast Hwy sold for $4m in 2021 to developer Paul Gedoun, of S&S Projects.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Elanora have climbed 9.3 per cent over the last 12 months to a median of $1.175m.
