Beachside Tower Planned for Southern Gold Coast

Plans for a clam-shell-inspired apartment tower in Palm Beach have been lodged with Gold Coast City Council.

Developer Quahlee Property has submitted the plans for the Contreras Earl-designed nine-storey tower, which would have two basement levels, a communal ground level with a pool and eight residential floors, at 215-217 Jefferson Lane, Palm Beach.

The owners of the properties are Christina Quinn, the former owner of Darrel Lea and VIP Petfoods, and Quahlee sole director Felicity Spittle, who was a chief financial officer for both those companies.

The 817sq m site at the corner of Jefferson and Thirteenth Avenue has direct beach access and is in a medium-density residential zone.

Each floor would have a three-bedroom unit with ensuite, butler’s pantry and deeply curved balconies, gardens and screening.

▲ Contreras Earl Architects designed the tower proposed for a site on Jefferson Lane, Palm Beach near Thirteenth Avenue, drawing inspiration from the clam.

In the application, Contreras Earl Architecture said the curvilinear shading created climatic control and created individual apartment pods.

“The morphology and self-sufficiency of certain clam shell species inspired the curvaceous form of the apartment pods that read as individual elements horizontally,” it stated.

“This new landmark will be an engaging architectural asset for the urban fabric of the coastal city.”

Property development on the Gold Coast has been heating up near the highway and future site of the light rail.

MVGS Properties recently lodged plans for a nine-storey building on Twenty-eighth Avenue.

Near Tenth Avenue an entity linked to Daniel Chippendale has lodged plans for a similar sized building, while near Nineteenth Avenue a larger 76 apartment development is in the pipeline, backed by Gold Coast developer Anthony Gordon.
