Much loved Meldrum’s Pies beach house for sale

A year after founders of north Qld’s much loved Meldrums Pies cashed in their beach house for millions, it’s back up for grabs and expected to fetch much more than 294,000 steak pies in cash.

Graham and Dania Meldrum had sold their stunning absolute beachfront home for $2.35m in April 2022 – a deal that at the time was worth 335,000 steak pies at $7 a piece, but at today’s prices coming in at about 294,000 of the scrumptious $8 pastries.

The absolute beachfront home is perfect for multigenerational families.

It was the final piece of their retirement puzzle after four decades in business in north Queensland, listing the absolute beachfront home just five months after completing handover of their iconic Meldrum’s Pies in Paradise to Cairns Carwash Cafe owners Daniel, Nathan and Trent Freebody.

Their stunning beach house at 34 Hibiscus Lane, Holloways Beach, has since been used for short term rentals by the current owner, who has now put it back on the market via a best offers campaign closing 5pm on July 6.

The family owned the absolute beachfront home for over 20 years.

Real estate agent Natiesha Olufson of Explore Property Cairns, who sold the home for the Meldrums a year ago, is also handling the current sales campaign.

She said it was “currently a very popular Airbnb with bookings in advance”, which also means any viewing of the property will have to fit around the rental schedule.

Located just 11.8km from Cairns City and the airport, the beach house has multiple living areas, making it “great for multi-generational living”, according to Ms Olufson.

There’s also space for a caravan or boat, direct beach access, decking, tropical swimming pool with waterfall and gardens, solar electricity and hot water.

The Meldrums had bought the beach house for $600,000 23 years ago – about halfway into growing their successful bakery and pie business which is so popular it has its own fan page, a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor and was once voted best pie in FNQ.
