A LUXURY waterfront home with views of the Gold Coast city skyline and Hinterland has come onto the market for the first time in 20 years.
Featuring 30m of river frontage, the Sorrento home includes three levels of contemporary living, a swimming pool, cinema, wine cellar, two-car garage, and its own private boat pontoon.
Lindsay and Judy Wood purchased the property in 2003, but at the time it was nothing like the luxury residence the couple envisaged.
“It was one of those low-rise, 80s style three-bedroom houses, but it had this great location and incredible view,” Mrs Wood explained.
“We’re builders ourselves and were looking for a project, so we demolished pretty much everything and only left one wall standing.”
With four young children, the aim was to create a family home with a timeless design.
“We sat there for 12 months looking at the view, considering what was needed,” Mr Wood said.
“We tossed ideas around, we’d go for drives to pick up on things we liked in other properties, then incorporated them into the design.”
The result is a spacious five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home that spans three storeys, and the view retains pride of place throughout the property.
“You can see that view everywhere, and the light just floods in,” Mrs Wood said.
“There are great outdoor areas to enjoy and it’s a home with a good flow that is easy to maintain.”
With entry via a port cochere and portico, the lower level includes sizeable living areas, a kitchen with butler’s pantry, an in-home cinema, private guest suite, and additional bedroom.
The middle level offers two wings connected by a central living area and adjacent office, with the master suite located in one wing and two additional bedrooms in the other.
Meanwhile, the upper floor is dedicated to an entertaining lounge with its own private balcony, spa and wet bar.
Outdoor living is a feature of the property, with the lower two levels offering a seamless transition between the interior living spaces and expansive outdoor terraces, all of which overlook the swimming pool and landscaped garden, then down the Nerang River to the Gold Coast cityscape beyond.
A 12m boat pontoon completes the luxury lifestyle, with the property’s position offering direct access to Main River.
“It’s a great lifestyle,” Mrs Wood said.
“We used to have a big boat and would go out to Couran Cove, across to Wave Break Island for the day or out to Tangalooma.
“There are so many great places to go with friends.”
The property itself also offers the ideal entertainer’s lifestyle, with the Woods hosting countless family events at the home over the years.
“The kids all had their graduations and 21st birthdays here and we had our 50ths,” Mrs Wood said.
“It’s a great entertainer and when people walk in, they always comment on how spacious, comfortable and beautiful the home is.”
Mr Wood said a major drawcard of the property was the versatility it offered, with everyone able to come together yet enjoy their own space.
“There are so many places to spend time,” he said.
“You can be upstairs in the entertaining lounge, sitting on the veranda reading a book or together in the kitchen and living areas.
“And the location is ideal, it’s so close to the beach, Pacific Fair, good schools and medical facilities.”
However, now their children have left home, the Woods said it was time to downsize.
They’re currently considering moving to an apartment and their Sorrento home will go to auction later this month.
“It’s been an amazing home which is why we’ve stayed so long,” Mr Wood said.
“It offers the best of Gold Coast living in a great location and that’s what we’ll miss.”
The waterfront property is located at 13 San Remo Blvd, Sorrento, and will go under the hammer on June 30.
Amir Prestige Group’s Marc Keswell and Ella Brewster are marketing the property.
