Ruin X: Custom rendered house in Burleigh Waters listed with $3m price hopes

A Burleigh Waters statement home resembling a modern-day cave is back on the market with $3 million price hopes.

Named Ruin X, the avant-garde home was a renovation project by residential and commercial renderer, Matt Jamieson, of Gold Coast company Render X, and last sold under the hammer in March 2022 for $2,713,888.

The buyer, young Melbourne investor Christopher Shao, planned to use the property as a holiday home but had decided to sell instead as work commitments kept him from away, said listing agent Emil Juresic, of NGU Real Estate.

“We put it on the market yesterday and it has already gone viral with so much interest,” Mr Juresic said.

“We have sold billions of dollars worth of real estate and I’ve never seen anything like this property before. It is very unique and the quality of workmanship is unbelievable.”

Designer Jayson Pate was enlisted to transform the 1990-built house on a 714sq m lot at 31 Beaconsfield Dr in the popular southern Queensland suburb.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home’s external walls and internal surfaces were entirely rendered, while micro cement floors and custom built-in furniture added to the dramatic effect.

The project was completed over five months in 2021, and has since been hired as an event and shoot location by a slew of local brands and influencers.

Canary palms flank the home’s curved entry way, where glass doors with bronze snake handles open onto a living area crafted from Venetian plaster and textural finishes.

Features include quirky backlit wall shelving, formal lounge with open fireplace and Timothy Oulten chandelier, and a marble island bench in the kitchen.

The master bedroom has a built-in rendered bed, boutique-style dressing room and bold ensuite with freestanding concrete bath, while outside is a covered al fresco area with a fully equipped bar and a curved pool complete with rendered diving boards.
