How you can own the ultimate acreage property without the upkeep

Owning an acreage property, without spending all weekend mowing — that’s the real treechange dream, according to real estate expert Andrew Winter.

While record numbers of lockdown-weary interstate residents moved to regional Queensland during the pandemic boom, others gave up on their desire to make a lifestyle change when the reality of maintaining a larger block of land hit home.

But Selling Houses Australia host Winter said the stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland property up for grabs in Mater Prize Home’s latest draw, valued at $3.19 million, was an example of the perfect compromise for city dwellers in search of a treechange.

“For a lot of people, a vast number of acres and the maintenance that goes along with that isn’t what they want,” Winter said.

“What they really want is the ability to have a bit of privacy, space for the kids, space for the pets and the toys, to grow their own veggies or have fruit trees — it’s that feeling where they can get away from the everyday in their own piece of paradise.”

The major prize of lottery No. 307 includes a spectacular family home at Montville set among 5,850sq m of lush grounds, valued at $2.68m, as well as a Range Rover Evoque, Rover Lawn King ride-on mower, and $200,000 in cashable gold bullion.

Tickets are now available from $2 each.

Winter said the prize home offered an ideal introduction to a semi-rural lifestyle, being located just a short drive from the boutique shops, restaurants and cafes in Montville’s town centre, while surrounding attractions include the natural Kondalilla Falls, wineries, and the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine Coast.

“This particular property is in that manageable category of acreage where you have a beautiful garden but you are not hidden away in the bush and you are not isolated either,” he said.

“And for the winner of this prize, it really is the best of both worlds because they will very likely be able to afford for someone to look after it if they don’t want to.”

The prize home at 343 Western Ave is open for viewing by the public from 9am to 5pm daily until June 18.

Located along the picturesque town’s premier street, the house has an open floorplan, with spacious living areas, high ceilings and expanses of glass capturing stunning green views.

It has an elegant galley-style kitchen and formal dining space along with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a self-contained one-bedroom guest studio.

Mater Foundation CEO Andrew Thomas said the prize offered a number of life-changing options for one lucky winner.

“Winning this incredible Montville home will change someone’s life forever. Whether the winner chooses to move straight in and enjoy living mortgage-free in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland, rent it out and earn an additional income, or sell it on the lucrative property market, it will open the door to securing their financial future that otherwise wouldn’t be possible,” Mr Thomas said.

“It’s really changing lives with every ticket – it could change your life, but it also changes the lives of many people within our community through the funding of exceptional patient care, equipment, vital medical research, training, and education at Mater.”

Census 2021 data shows regional Australia recorded a net gain of 184,000 over five years, which was more than double the previous five-year period.

Australian Bureau of Statistisc (ABS) figures show more people moved to Queensland than any other state, with the Sunshine Coast notching up the second-highest rate of net internal migration behind the Gold Coast.

House prices in Montville were down 2.8 per cent over the last 12 months to a median of $972,000, PropTrack data shows.

According the latest Proptrack Home Price Index, national home prices continued to stabilise in April after rising for the fourth consecutive month, rising 0.14 per cent. PropTrack has the cumulative increase in 2023 now at 0.75 per cent.

Selling Houses Australia airs Wednesday at 8.30pm on FOXTEL, hosted by Winter with interior design expert Wendy Moore, and landscape designer Dennis Scott.

Lottery No. 307 will be drawn June 23.
