Queensland Property Investment: Former Golden Circle boss hopes for a sweet deal as he puts Brisbane home on the market

The former General Manager of Golden Circle is hoping to make a sweet deal in the property world.

Niel Thygesen, who held the role for 13 years after working up through the ranks, has put his “retirement home” in Brisbane’s exclusive suburb of Ascot on the market.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom abode at 78 Towers Street is listed by Elisa McMahon of Adcock Prestige Queensland, and is going to auction on Saturday May 20 without a price guide.

Queensland law prohibits agents from setting price guides for homes going to auction.

Niel commenced work at age 20 for Queensland Tropical Fruits Company Pty Ltd and its Golden Circle household-name brand – a canned fruits, juice and cordial giant.

He stayed with the company for 46 years until his retirement in 1993, working up through the finance operational ranks before he became the General Manager.

Agent Elisa McMahon reveals that Niel, now 96, and his wife Jill Thygesen, now 87, have held the home for the last 29 years and are selling due to advanced age and ill health.

Niel purchased the property back in 1994 as a “retirement home” so that they could be close to their children and grandchildren.

Occupying two levels, the home is Mediterranean-inspired with a white exterior, russet-red brick windowsills, heavy-set timber doors and a terracotta-tiled roof.

Interiors are modern and take on a neutral colour palette with whitewashed walls, polished timber floors, crystal chandeliers, plush beige carpet and drapes, and white shutters.

There’s also ample space to entertain with a garden terrace and a tiled outdoor pool.

The property is scheduled to go to auction at 4pm on Saturday May 20. Domain’s latest data reveals the median price for a three-bedroom home in Ascot is $1.485 million.

Ascot is an exclusive suburb of Brisbane, less than 6km from Brisbane’s CBD.
