A piece of Queensland’s dark past, the building that hosted the former Bubbles Bathhouse brothel in Fortitude Valley, is again up for sale.
The heritage listed building, now home to Les Bubbles steakhouse, is being sold by Sunshine Coast developers the Juniper family through agents Knight Frank.
The building’s pedigree is well-known to those with an interest in Queensland political history as it played a prominent part in the exposure of police corruption that culminated in the seminal Fitzgerald Inquiry and the demise of the Bjelke-Petersen government.
The former HQ of Fitzgerald Inquiry figures Gerry Bellino and Vittorio Conte, Bubbles was a Valley landmark notorious for its illegal casino and massage parlour in the 1980s.
Knight Frank’s Christian Sandstrom said the Wickam St property occupied a prime Valley location.
“Everyone in Brisbane knows this building – not only is it situated on a major Fortitude Valley thoroughfare, but it is engrained in Fortitude Valley history and growth over the past 100 years,” he said.
The building last changed hands four years ago.
