Greyburn is planning to build another 40 apartments in Coolangatta, lodging plans to build a second tower in the area with the City of Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast developer’s 19-storey, flat-iron-inspired building on McLean Street is still under assessment after plans were lodged in December 2021.
The latest development, under the entity Alvey 12, is for an eight-storey tower with a rooftop pool and three levels of basement parking at 30 Garrick Street, Coolangatta.
There would be six, two-bedroom apartments on each floor, according to the plans by BDA Architects for the 1242sq m site which also has frontage on Musgrave Street.
The land is currently used as a carpark and is zoned for medium density residential.
There has been a strong uptick of developments in the Coolangatta area recently.
Becdev is also planning a 22-storey residential tower on McLean Street, a site that nearly backs onto Greyburn’s latest proposal.
BDA Architects said they took inspiration from older brick apartment buildings and newer developments to create a coastal, contemporary vernacular.
“The concept is to provide a variety of two-bedroom dwellings that mix between smaller affordable floor plans and larger spacious lifestyle layouts,” the architectural statement said.
“The 40 units will therefore service a wide sector of the market from downsizers wishing to stay within proximity to their existing detached dwellings to young couples seeking proximity to the beach and employment.”
Apartment sales on the Gold Coast have increased 67 per cent in the past year, with prices increasing 26.7 per cent to $597,483, according to Corelogic.
